Why extracting locally matters
This editor
- Your file never leaves your device
- No account or email required
- No file size cap
- Reads any already-recognized OCR text too, not just the PDF's original text
Typical "upload to convert" tools
- Your document's actual content sits on their server
- Often capped on file size or page count
- Usually requires an account
- Scanned PDFs often come back empty with no explanation
Frequently asked questions
Does this work on a scanned PDF?
Only for whatever's already been run through Make Searchable (OCR) in the editor first — a scan has no real text in it at all until then, just a picture of text. Run Make Searchable, then convert to TXT and that recognized text comes along with it.
Does it keep the original layout or formatting?
No — this is plain text only: no columns, tables, fonts, or page layout, just the words themselves in reading order. For something closer to the original structure, try PDF to Word or PDF to HTML instead.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere to extract the text?
No — extraction runs entirely in your browser, reading the same text your document already contains. Nothing is sent to a server.
What happens to a page with no text at all?
It contributes an empty section — nothing is silently skipped, so the page count in the output still lines up with the original.
